The Afro American Music Institute

Celebrating 40 Years of AAMI

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone that joined us at our 2023 Gala at the Double Tree Hotel in Monroeville, PA, to celebrate our 40th year anniversary. Throughout the years of service we are very grateful for your love and support.

To our faculty board members, students, parents, many friends & family, funders, donors, and the community, we appreciate everyone who has not only walked with us but have shared many memories throughout the years. Thanks for the memories.

With love,

Dr. James & Pamela Johnson

Gumbo Fest

Dr. J and I would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone in support of our most recent event “Lousi-Ann Gumbo Fest” with music by Louisiana’s finest Dikki Du & The Zydeco Krewe. The event was held February 26 2023 at St James AME church in Sumpter Hall.

Broadway Show

On behalf of the Afro American Music Institute, the Co-Founders, Dr. James T Johnson & Pamela Johnson, we are exceedingly proud of Nasir Bulter, a young man who grew up in AAMI’s boys choir as a lead singer and soloist. Nasir is now part of the first cast of Broadway’s “Hits The Musical National Tour” which will be March 11 here in Pittsburgh.

His family at AAMI will be attending, excited to show our love and support.

We would like to share this message of Nasir singing a special song written by Pastor Keith Moncrief with AAMI’s boys choir.
